Vertex Impress Blade review

Vertex focuses on the mass market and tries to create devices that are optimal in terms of price / quality ratio. At the same time, Vertex not only adapts Chinese models for the Russian market, but also adds features that are initially absent and may seem like an unnecessary trifle to someone in smartphones that are inexpensive. For example, how do you like the availability of dual-band Wi-Fi in inexpensive models? Many consumers simply will not be able to appreciate this, but they will notice that their device “catches” Wi-Fi better in some situations. And there are quite a lot of such “little things”. This is an attempt to squeeze the maximum possible in the budget segment, to give the consumer a little more than others.

The Blade model is a little bit out of the Impress range in this respect, as it not only offers good value for money, but gives a lot for its money. For example, you can compare this device at a price of 6,990 rubles with the Nokia 3.1, which costs 10,990 rubles. They will have parity in terms of memory capacity, the fact that you can simultaneously use two SIM-cards and a memory card, but the Vertex screen has a slightly larger diagonal, there are touch keys, a fingerprint sensor. And that's at almost half the price! Yes, of course, Blade has a simpler design, case materials, but this is redeemed by other pluses. Figuratively speaking, for the price of Nokia 3.1 you can buy almost two Impress Blades. And I have no doubts about which solution will be more popular.

Nokia 3.1

Don't get me wrong, the same Impress Blade is a complete reflection of the current market for C-brands, it is a typical solution in its class, which stands out for its value. About 400 models of Android smartphones are represented on the Russian market in the segment from 6 to 8 thousand rubles! But if you use the search engine and filter in characteristics like the Impress Blade, you won't find a noticeable number of competitors. Cause? The price originally belonged to a higher-class model, it was 2,000 rubles more. By drastically reducing the cost, Vertex has achieved an excellent price / quality ratio, which can be attractive to many.

Design, dimensions, controls

Outwardly, the device is very similar to models from Huawei and other Chinese manufacturers, it is easy to guess different models in it, there is no uniqueness in appearance, but it is possible that this is not bad. The first impression when you look at the device is that the body is made of metal, but it is deceptive, the whole device is made of plastic, this is also a way to reduce the cost of construction. The model comes in a silver or gold case, I like the silver one.

The phone measures 154 x 77 x 8.3 mm and weighs 188 grams. The device is wide, it cuts a little into the hand. Unusually, there are touch keys under the screen (they can be replaced with on-screen ones, but if you want to swap them). In the sun, the backlight of the touch keys is not visible, you need to remember where and which one is located. But I think that it will not be difficult.

Vertex Impress Blade

Despite the fact that the case is made of plastic, it is quite well assembled, there are no gaps, and subjectively there is no feeling of cheapness, the device looks like classmates that have metal in them. There is an LED indicator above the screen, it is not very bright, and the front camera is right there.

A metal plate is built into the case, which allows you to install the device on a magnetic holder in a car, this is a unique feature of the model, for those who travel a lot in a car, this can be useful.

On the left side is a tray for two nanoSIM cards, as well as a memory card. The slot is not combined, so you can use two SIM-cards and a memory card at once. The paperclip to remove the slot should be placed slightly at an angle, not perpendicular.

On the right side there is a paired volume rocker, as well as an on/off button.

Vertex Impress Blade

At the top end you will find a 3.5 mm jack, it is used to connect a headset.

At the bottom end there is a speaker and a microUSB connector (which is impossible to write down as a minus for a budget device, here buyers do not care).

Vertex Impress Blade

The fingerprint sensor is located on the back panel under the camera, it is easy to find by touch, you get used to it quickly. The operation of the sensor does not cause any complaints, everything is very, very good.

Display

The screen specifications are as follows: 5.5 inches, 1080x1920 pixels (FHD), IPS, automatic brightness control, Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Good viewing angles, the picture is bright, adaptive adjustment works acceptable. For its class, this is a typical screen that can be categorized as good. Indoors, it does not cause any complaints, it becomes blind in the sun, there is not enough maximum brightness. But again, for its level, this is a good display.

The amount of RAM is 2 GB, which by modern standards is quite enough for an ordinary consumer who does not play "heavy" games. The amount of internal memory is 16 GB, of which about 10 GB are available to you. You can install memory cards up to 32 GB.

Communications

4G support is implemented normally, but don't expect exorbitant speeds, everything is quite simple. The work of GPS does not raise any complaints, everything works well. The implementation of Wi-Fi is also typical, it is dual-band, which is unusual for models of this level.

Unusually, there is support for OTG, which is also rare in such devices.

Camera

The front camera is 8 megapixels, it is very simple, the main module is 16 megapixels more interesting and gives good results in bright light. Look at the interface and sample photos and videos.

There is nothing to say here, this is standard Android 8.1, you should not wait for updates to new versions. The device has a built-in FM-radio, it only works with headphones, as they act as an antenna. There is also a file manager and a voice recorder.

The volume of the call is not the maximum, but it is loud enough, you can hear it well. The vibrating alert is average, not everyone will feel it from a pocket, especially a bag. There are no complaints about the quality of communication, the device confidently holds the network, there are no artifacts during the conversation.

I would like to note separately the volume of sound in the headphones, a huge margin, and the device stands out in this parameter in a favorable direction.

In terms of price / quality ratio, this model is excellent, as it offers a fingerprint sensor, a large screen and a rather long battery life for 6,990 rubles. The device has not so many direct competitors, all have similar characteristics, and here it is already worth looking at the performance, the quality of the case and other points. As for me, the Vertex Impress Blade turned out to be successful, for the money this is an excellent solution.

The playback time of unconverted HD-quality video is about 7 hours at maximum brightness (which is typical for the platform from MediaTek).

On average, the device worked for me for about one day with three hours of screen operation. Which clearly exceeds the needs of the target audience, for them it will be Portable Power Bank two days of full-fledged work with 2-2.5 hours of screen operation.

At the top end you will find a 3.5 mm jack, it is used to connect a headset.

At the bottom end there is a speaker and a microUSB connector (which is impossible to write down as a minus for a budget device, here buyers do not care).

Battery

The built-in Li-Ion battery has a capacity of 3300 mAh, the claimed talk time is up to 20 hours, and standby time is up to 96 hours. The full battery charging time is about 3.5 hours. The playback time of unconverted HD-quality video is about 7 hours at maximum brightness (which is typical for the platform from MediaTek).

On average, the device worked for me for about one day with three hours of screen operation. Which clearly exceeds the needs of the target audience, for them it will be a Portable Power Bank for two days of full-fledged work with 2-2.5 hours of screen operation. With less use, the device is able to work noticeably longer, the operating time will increase by 1.5-2 times.

Memory, platform, performance

The device is built on the MediaTek MT6750 platform (8 cores up to 1.5 GHz, Mali T860 graphics coprocessor), the processor cannot be called super-efficient, but for such a screen it is enough for the eyes. Fans of virtual parrots can look at the test results. Unfortunately, the AnTuTu test recently refuses to work on many models, this one is no exception, so this test was not.

Software

There is nothing to say here, this is standard Android 8.1, you should not wait for updates to new versions. The device has a built-in FM-radio, it only works with headphones, as they act as an antenna. There is also a file manager and a voice recorder.

Impressions

The volume of the call is not maximum, but it is loud enough, you can hear it well.
