UMI Diamond review

At the end of last year, the Chinese company UMI had a budget smartphone called Diamond. It is distinguished by the fact that it is equipped with an 8-core chip, 3 GB of RAM and a protective glass (for the front panel), which can withstand heavy loads thanks to the special Dual T2X-1 glass. The device has a "brother" Diamond X - it is a little simpler in terms of technical parameters.

Currently, UMI Diamond sells for about $100, or about 6,000 rubles.

Design, dimensions, controls

The appearance of the device is reminiscent of Samsung and Xiaomi smartphones, especially if you pay attention to the beveled back cover such as Galaxy S6/S7 Edge or Xiaomi Mi5S. In any case, it's better than a completely faceless design.

The Diamond frame is made of metal, looks impressive and soundly, a thin polished bevel runs along the edge. The back panel, oddly enough (now most smartphones are non-separable), is removed. It's made of plastic. We had a black gadget on our hands, and the back panel was glossy: naturally, it was quickly covered with fingerprints. Scratches and other damage were also more visible than on devices in gold or white, as they are made of matte plastic. That is, I recommend looking at the UMI Diamond in white or gold colors.

As for the front part, it is protected by glass with patented Dual Glass technology. Below you can watch the video of the company about how the gadget is tested for durability.

And in this video, Diamond is dropped onto concrete several times from different heights.

I did not conduct such experiments, however, during the testing, not a single scratch appeared on the display, even a small one. I hope that Dual Glass is not a marketing ploy.

The device has dimensions of 143.0x70x9.4 mm. It is relatively compact, but thick for its size and battery life. It weighs almost 170 grams - a bit much, apparently, most of the weight is taken by the metal frame. It lies perfectly in the hand due to the small width and sloping sides of the back panel.

On the front of the device there is an event indicator, light and proximity sensors (functioning adequately), a camera, a speech speaker (loud, sounds clear, mostly mid frequencies are heard). Below the screen are standard Android touch buttons without backlighting.

The hands-free speaker and microphone are on the bottom, and on the top there is a 3.5 mm audio output and microUSB. On the right is the power button and the volume rocker. Made from Toyota Corolla 2010 Gray metal, soft touch, medium travel.

From the reverse side - a camera lens with a metal rim sticking out a millimeter from the surface of the cover, a flash and various inscriptions.

Under the cover there are two slots, nanoSIM and microSIM, plus a slot for a memory card.
