Sonos is known for its audio solutions, primarily multi-room systems. Not so long ago, Sonos devices officially appeared on sale in Russia, ranging from accessories and mounts for equipment to devices for home theater and built-in acoustics.

Today's review is a Sonos Roam portable audio system, which can pleasantly surprise you with its capabilities. In the manufacturer's line, this is the most mobile device that can be used both at home and on the road. At the same time, it does not fail in any conditions, both hardware characteristics and design features contribute to this.

Appearance, ergonomics

Sonos Roam comes in a neat box with a minimum package, the speaker itself is hidden in a felt case. I'm not sure that it is worth considering it as a solution for carrying, if you wish, of course, you can, but it does not inspire reliability. The column is surprisingly small, and it is easy to handle even with one average-sized hand, weighing only 430 grams.

The plastic case has a matte finish, which no, no, yes, imprints a handprint, a finger, or collects a trace from contact with anything from the environment. The case is moderately slippery, in wet hands it will noticeably slide. The column is not afraid of moisture and dust, IP67 protection is declared (full dust protection, the ability to withstand immersion in fresh water to a depth of 1 meter for half an hour).

Four small silicone feet around the back of the Sonos Roam make it clear that the speaker can stand both vertically and horizontally, this is facilitated by a triangular-shaped case with smoothed corners. In horizontal mode, the manufacturer's logo is accentuated on the metal grill covering the speaker. This is how the system looks in section.

To the left of the logo is an LED indicating the connection status, on the opposite side is a similar power indicator. The power button is located on the side opposite the speaker, next to the Type-C connector. The presence of a modern port for charging is a definite plus, we will return to it in the section on autonomy. But still it would be nice to have an AUX output to be able to turn it even louder.

As for the power button, it is worth noting that to completely turn off the device, you need to hold it down for 5 seconds. A single press will put the Sonos Roam into standby mode, from which it will be brought out by pressing any of the control keys. They are located on the side pad closest to the Sonos logo, covered with soft silicone. These four buttons - pause/play, two volume buttons and a voice assistant control key - fully control the playback and additional functions of the device.
