LG G Pad 8.0 (v490) Review

In this difficult time, some plans for the purchase of electronic gadgets have to be reviewed, as every day they become more expensive. Therefore, there is an increasing interest in less expensive devices. Many of you, including me, did not think that you would have to take budget devices, which are now at the level of the average price range. Actually, I am writing this to the fact that the LG G Pad 8.0 is the very affordable tablet that few people paid attention to before the crisis, and at the moment it can become popular due to its relatively adequate cost.

Design, dimensions, controls

The device has a familiar appearance, characteristic of many LG products. In particular, the G Pad 8.0 is an almost complete copy of the G Pad 8.3, the first South Korean tablet. The shape of the case is rectangular, the upper and lower faces are slightly curved, the edges are sloping. The back side becomes more streamlined closer to the edges.

The LG G Pad V490 measures 210x124x10mm and weighs 336 grams. Despite the official website claiming that the V490 is compact in size, I would Fantasia Liquid Mouse Spritz Spray said it was standard on any modern 8" tablet. The weight is also not the smallest. For example, G Pad 8.3 with a metal cover is only 2 grams heavier.

There is only one color: black front panel and white back side. Classic version.

The screen is protected by glass, probably not Gorilla Glass, however, after a couple of weeks of active use, nothing terrible happened to it. There is an oleophobic coating, I can’t say that it is of very high quality, but it is better than some gadgets for the same price. Fingerprints are noticeable, but erased quickly. The finger glides over the surface easily and pleasantly.

The back cover is completely made of matte plastic. It comes a little on the front side, forming a thin little rim that prevents damage to the display when the device is placed face down.

The assembly is good, only the back panel flexes a little to the battery. There are no squeaks and backlashes, the device does not crackle when compressed.

At the top of the front side is a "selfie" camera. Unfortunately, LG decided to save money on the light sensor - you only have to manually adjust the brightness of the matrix backlight.

LG G Pad 8.0 (v490)

At the bottom there is a micro-USB, and at the top there is a microphone, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, an IR transmitter, slots for a memory card and a micro-SIM under a plastic cover. Be careful not to mix up the slots: the metal tray is for the SIM card, and the slot is for the memory card. I inadvertently tried to install a microSIM into the memory card slot at first - it didn’t fit, and the nano-SIM sank into the case. I got it with great difficulty.

The volume rocker and power button are on the right. They are thin, not very long, their stroke is minimal, the pressing is soft.

On the reverse side there is a camera eye protruding a millimeter above the body. Below are two slots, in the right - the speaker.

Display

This product uses an 8-inch screen. The physical size is 107x172 mm, the frame on top is 20 mm, on the bottom is 19 mm, on the right and left are approximately 8.5 mm each. There is an anti-reflective coating.

The resolution of the LG v490 display is 1280x800 pixels, the density is 188 pixels per inch. The IPS matrix is practically OGS. For a diagonal of 8 inches, the resolution is normal, pixelation is almost invisible, the picture is relatively clear.

Max white luminance 283 cd/m2, minimum white luminance 6 cd/m2, maximum black luminance 0.44 cd/m2, minimum black luminance 0.01 cd/m2. Contrast - 642:1. The average gamma value is 2.33, the average temperature value is 6000 K, but at the maximum brightness level it rises to 6200 K.

The image is not distorted even at large viewing angles, there are no purple and yellow tints.

Battery

The device uses a 4200 mAh non-removable battery.

During the test, I got the following indicators:

  • HD video playback (720p, H.264) at maximum brightness and volume with sound output to headphones: just over 4 hours
  • Music playback on headphones at maximum volume: just over 35 hours
  • Games only (high brightness and volume): just over 3 hours
  • Wi-Fi surfing only (high backlight brightness): about 10 hours
  • Read only (medium brightness): about 8 hours

The time for a full charge from a standard network adapter was about 2.5 hours, from USB - about 7 hours.

In the settings there is an option to save energy. However, it only disables Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, the brightness decreases when a certain amount of charge is reached (from 10 to 50%).

Memory and memory card

The RAM in the LG G Pad 8.0 is one gigabyte. On average, about 300 - 400 MB are free. The rest is probably "eaten" by the shell.

LG G Pad 8.0 (v490) Tablet LG G Pad 8.0 (v490)

16 GB built-in Flash memory. Of this amount, 11 GB is available to the user. There is support for microSD memory cards up to 64 GB.

Camera

The LG G Pad v490 tablet has two camera modules: 5-megapixel (with autofocus, 35mm, F2.7) and 1.3-megapixel (F2.9, front, no autofocus, for video calls). There is no flash, and it seems to me that there is no special need for it.

The quality of photos under normal lighting conditions is excellent: accurate white balance, good sharpness, no "soap" in the corners, pleasant natural colors. If the lighting deteriorates, then the detailing suffers first of all, there is little noise. For a tablet, the camera is quite decent. In addition, it is worth noting the fast and accurate 9-point autofocus.

The front camera is ordinary, nothing interesting, not even wide-angle.

The tablet can record video in FullHD resolution at 30 frames per second. The quality is good, there is a "touch focus" (relatively slow). The sound is mono, the quality is average.

Performance

On the official website of the company, it says that the device is equipped with a 4-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 MSM8926 chipset (as it turned out, a mistake was made on the website). However, all special applications and benchmarks say that inside is MSM8226. If we consider 8926, then LTE should be present, it seems to me, but it is not here. Many resources do not specify the chip model at all, saying that v490 has Qualcomm 4x1.2 GHz or just Cortex-A7. In any case, if we consider the performance, then they have the same. Adreno 305 acts as a graphics accelerator.

The tablet sometimes freezes, behaves not very cheerfully. Toys are only relatively simple, for example, GTA SA starts up, but 1-2 FPS is unlikely to satisfy you.

The volume in the headphones is very high, the quality is good, but nothing more.

Speaker volume is medium. If you put LG on a horizontal surface, then the volume will drop by 20 percent (in fact, you can hear that high frequencies are cut), and if you cover it with your hand, it will drop by 50.

Performance

On the official website of the company, it is said that the device is equipped with a 4-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 MSM8926 chipset (as it turned out later, a mistake was made on the website).

Software platform

The device runs on the Google Android operating system version 4.4.2. LG's proprietary shell is used as the UI. I will not describe in detail, since it is practically no different from the shell in smartphones.

When playing a melody, a large picture of the album, player control, and effects are displayed. The last item contains: Pure surround, bass reduction, bass increase, treble increase, vocal boost, custom EQ settings (7 bands - 31 Hz, 125 Hz, 250 Hz, 500 Hz, 2 kHz, 6 kHz, 16 kHz).

The player supports almost all formats and codecs in all resolutions. Yes, there are problems, but mostly it is a specific video, for example, a recorded streaming broadcast from a satellite in TS format.

Conclusion

The device costs about 10,000 rubles, however, it is quite difficult to find it in stock. Of the main positive points, it is worth highlighting a well-known brand, a pleasant appearance of the device, a good screen, high-quality photo and video cameras, and a slot for a memory card. Only performance was not impressive, the tablet is clearly not sharpened for toys.

WEXLER.MOBI 7 LTE. The price is about 9,000 rubles. Inside the Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8926 and LTE.

Archos 80 Helium 4G. The price is about 10,000 rubles. The parameters are about the same as those of Wexler.

Prestigio MultiPad PMT5287. The price is about 11,000 rubles. Similar to Archos.

Despite the website's claim that the V490 is compact in size, I'd say Fantasia Liquid Mouse Spritz Spray is standard on any modern 8" tablet. The weight is also not the smallest. For example, G Pad 8.3 with a metal cover is only 2 grams heavier.

LG G Pad V490 measures 210x124x10mm and weighs 336 grams. Despite the statement on the official website that the V490 has a compact size, I would Fantasia Liquid Mouse Spritz Spray Fantasia Liquid Mouse Spritz Spray said that it is standard for any modern 8-inch tablet. The weight is also not the smallest. For example, the G Pad 8.3 with a metal cover is only 2 grams heavier.

They are thin, not very long, their stroke is minimal, the pressure is soft.

On the reverse side is a camera eye protruding a millimeter above the body. Below are two slots, in the right - the speaker.

Display

This product uses an 8-inch screen. The physical size is 107x172 mm, the frame on top is 20 mm, on the bottom is 19 mm, on the right and left are about 8.5 mm each. There is an anti-reflective coating.

The resolution of the LG v490 display is 1280x800 pixels, the density is 188 pixels per inch. The IPS matrix is almost OGS.
