WEXLER Tab 7t review

Eldar spoke in detail about the history of this tablet in a separate article. Those interested can re-read that article at the link below.

As for the positioning of the device, it is quite simple - we have a modified and improved Nexus 7, but from WEXLER. The tablet is really identical to the "seven", but unlike it, it has support for memory cards, a full-fledged USB port, and the price of configurations similar to the Nexus 7 is much lower. A side goal of this review is to understand whether it is more profitable to take WEXLER, or still stay with the Nexus 7.

Packages

  • Tablet
  • Combined charger
  • USB cable (also part of the charger)
  • Warranty card
  • Gift multicard

The tablet comes in a small cardboard box, in which all of the above is neatly stowed. The multicard is a bonus in the Wexler.ru bookstore. When replenishing your account on the site thanks to the multicard, you will receive a bonus on it (it depends on the amount you deposit: from 5 to 50%).

Appearance, design, controls, assembly

The tablet turned out to be original in design: it is not at all Mattresses in Dar es Salaam similar to most its competitors with rounded edges. On the contrary, it is all “angular”, judge for yourself: all ends have sharp corners, the edges of the back are also beveled at an angle, and not smoothly. Of course, such a design is not for everyone, but at least the 7t has its own face and can be recognized against the background of most competitors.

The main material used is rubberized matte corrugated plastic. Thanks to him, the tablet is comfortable and pleasant to hold in your hands, on the other hand, when holding it with two hands, the sharp corners of the device dig into your palm.

The entire front of the tablet is occupied by a seven-inch screen covered with protective glass, and you can also see the front camera eye above it.

At the bottom end there are slots for speakers, a microphone hole and connectors for a SIM card and a microSD memory card (cards up to 32GB are supported).

In addition, at the bottom there is a plug, under which a full-fledged USB port, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and microHDMI and microUSB connectors are hidden. For me, the decision to hide all the constantly needed connectors under a cover (3.5 mm, microUSB, USB port) is completely incomprehensible, and leave the slots for the SIM card and memory card outside, when it would be more logical to do the opposite. As a result, when listening to music, charging or connecting the device to a PC, you are forced to keep the flap open.

There are no complaints about the assembly, the device is perfectly assembled, nothing creaks, does not play, there are no gaps, cracks and other shortcomings of poor-quality assembly.

Dimensions

After three weeks of using the device, I got used to its dimensions and was already ready to write that everything was in order with them, but then another tablet came to me (this time it was Prestigio MultiPad PMP5770D, its thickness is 9 mm), and after it, 7t began to feel very thick. Previously, I did not notice this because of the successfully beveled edges, but in direct comparison this shortcoming became obvious. I'm not saying that the 7t is very thick, but you should understand that there are devices that are thinner than it.

  • WEXLER Tab 7t - 201x129x13 mm, weight 354 grams
  • Google Nexus 7 - 199x120x11 mm, weight 340 grams
  • Prestigio MultiPad - PMP 5770D 191x120x9 mm, weight 305 grams

At the same time, despite the thickness, the 7t is light in weight (although there are tablets lighter than it), it is comfortable to hold it for a long time both with one and two hands.

Screen

The screen size of the tablet is seven inches, the resolution is 1280x800 pixels, the matrix type is IPS, up to ten simultaneous touches are supported. The screen is covered with protective glass.

It feels like exactly the same screen as in the Nexus 7 is installed here. Accordingly, it guarantees high definition of fonts and images in general, as well as large viewing angles. With 7t it is very pleasant to read books, twitter, mail, and in general, all work using text causes only positive emotions. Movies are a little worse, sometimes the maximum brightness is not enough and you want to tweak it a little.

The screen also has drawbacks, unlike the Nexus 7, there is no oleophobic coating here, so the finger does not slide so smoothly on the glass. The second annoying little thing - sometimes when you turn on the screen, the device does not respond to pressing, you need to turn off and turn on the screen again. And the third drawback is the lack of a light sensor.

Operating system

The tablet runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Using a version of Jelly Bean with landscape mode already enabled.

In WEXLER, the OS was almost not touched, they only added their own application store (Play Market is also present) and slightly changed the notifications in the blind, now if you have several notifications from one application (for example, information about updated programs from the Play Market) , then they are combined into one, and a number appears in the lower right corner with their number.

Otherwise, we have a "clean" Android 4.1 with all its pluses and minuses. Separately, I will note the smoothness of the interface, I never cease to rejoice at this innovation in 4.1.

Unfortunately, the 7t has an annoying drawback - to take screenshots, you need to hold the volume down + power button longer than usual, about three seconds, and all screenshots are taken with the volume indicator displayed.

Performance

This device has an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor running at 1.3 GHz. The amount of RAM is 1 GB, the capacity of the internal drive is 8/16 GB (depending on the modification). In the 8 GB version, 5.5 GB is available to the user. There is support for memory cards, as well as a full USB port.

Wireless interfaces

Wi-Fi (b/g/n) - all the usual functions are available, except for the usual wireless connection, there is also Wi-Fi Direct and Wi-Fi HotSpot (in the version with 3G).

GPS is one of the few tablets in the under 10k segment with GPS support. There are no complaints about the operation of the module, a cold start takes about 40 seconds. In addition, a trial version of the Navitel navigation program is installed in 7t.

Bluetooth 4.0 - all popular functions are supported, including A2DP. The only thing is that the tablet couldn't see my Rapoo bluetooth keyboard.

3G – in the modification of the 3G module, you can use the mobile Internet using your SIM card.

USB port

A full-fledged USB port is one of the "chips" of the tablet. I connected a keyboard, mouse, flash drives and even a joystick to it without any problems. Having a USB port is a huge plus for the 7t.

Camera

The tablet has two cameras - the main 5MP and the front 0.3MP. Pictures from the main camera are not amazing, but its capabilities are enough for quick text capturing.

As I said in the introduction, WEXLER is positioning this device as an "improved" Nexus 7 with a number of improvements. And in fact, this is true - the 7t has a lower price, more features, and in many respects it outperforms the Nexus 7, below I will try to describe the advantages and disadvantages of the 7t over the Nexus.

Benefits:

  • Full USB port
  • Memory card slot
  • Main camera
  • Lower price

Disadvantages:

  • Slower updates
  • Uncomfortable tight buttons
  • No oleophobic coating
  • Freezes when turning on the screen
  • Inconvenient implementation of the screenshot function

In addition to the Nexus 7, the 7t's competitors are many other seven-inch tablets from the Chinese and B-brands, but they use less powerful chipsets, plus, most of these models are not equipped with a 3G module.

In the end, we have a great tablet with top specifications and a good price, you can prefer the Nexus 7 to it only if you are interested in the fastest OS updates.

I have already talked about the features of NVIDIA Tegra 3 many times, so I recommend reading this article for those who are interested.

All the latest games run fine on the tablet, the same goes for video files, however, codec support is not as great as it could be. Under heavy loads, the right side of the tablet heats up, but the heating level is medium and does not cause much discomfort.

Offline work

The tablet uses a 4500 mAh non-removable battery.

In reading mode (airplane mode + 10% brightness), the device worked for almost nine hours.

In video mode (HD video + maximum brightness + airplane mode), the tablet lasted seven and a half hours.

With daily use (an hour of screen activity: twitter, mail, browser, books) and sync turned on, a 7t charge lasts for 3-4 days.

In general, these are excellent indicators for such a device, you do not need to worry about the 7t running out of power at the most inopportune moment.

Wireless interfaces

Wi-Fi (b/g/n) - all the usual functions are available, except for the usual wireless connection, there is also Wi-Fi Direct and Wi-Fi HotSpot (in the version with 3G).

GPS is one of the few tablets in the sub-10k segment with GPS support. There are no complaints about the operation of the module, a cold start takes about 40 seconds. In addition, a trial version of the Navitel navigation program is installed in 7t.

Bluetooth 4.0 - all popular features are supported, including A2DP. The only thing is that the tablet couldn't see my Rapoo bluetooth keyboard.

3G - in the modification of the 3G module, you can use the mobile Internet using your SIM card.

Weaknesses:

  • Slower updates
  • Uncomfortable tight buttons
  • No oleophobic coating
  • Freezes when turning on the screen
  • Inconvenient implementation of the screenshot function

In addition to the Nexus 7, the 7t's competitors are many other seven-inch tablets from the Chinese and B-brands, but they use less powerful chipsets, plus, most of these models are not equipped with a 3G module.

In the end, we have a great tablet with top specifications and a good price, you can prefer the Nexus 7 to it only if you are interested in the fastest OS updates.
