Review of a smartphone with two cameras DooGee Shoot 1

There are enough Chinese factories that produce inexpensive smartphones with the maximum set of features for their money. But if we remove obscure companies with furious names from consideration, there will be a dozen companies in the C-manufacturers segment in China, of which the Russian consumer has only heard about one or the other, for example, Oukitel or UMI. DooGee is practically unknown, it is a fairly small factory that is struggling to offer good smartphones in its segment in terms of price-quality ratio. It is important to understand here that this manufacturer does not have the capabilities, like larger factories, and therefore you always have to sacrifice something - do not expect that for three kopecks you will get everything that is possible, and software optimization will be perfect. But potentially this manufacturer is able to grow, and even now it offers smartphones that have a lot of flaws, but knowing about them, you can choose the device consciously and, possibly, win what you get as a result.

Specifically, DooGee Shoot 1 is a smartphone with dual cameras and background blur effects, from a marketing point of view, this is a win-win option. But even if you close your eyes to the second camera, you get a good budget solution that is attractive in its price a> class. This smartphone will suit anyone who is looking for a Chinese phablet from a small manufacturer with an attractive price. Let's try together to understand the strengths and weaknesses of this solution.

Design, dimensions, controls

Outwardly, the smartphone is made in the style of Huawei, which, in turn, is rooted in the flagships from HTC. Externally, the device is so typical that it is easy to confuse it with a lot of other smartphones. On the back panel there are inserts made of light plastic for antennas, but the case itself is plastic, not metal! These plastic inserts do not carry any functional load, if they are needed in a metal case for the operation of antennas, then this is just blind copying - this is customary for others, let it be with us. In my opinion, the absence of inserts would have made the case more interesting. For some reason, in the descriptions on the network they stubbornly say that there is metal in the smartphone case, but this is not so.

DooGee Shoot 1

The device is available in three colors - black, gold and gray. My device was black.

The front panel is ordinary, 2.5D glass, a protective film is glued, it quickly collects scratches and fingerprints, like many similar films from the package. By the way, the kit also includes a protective silicone case, its unusualness lies in the fact that it has plugs for a microUSB connector and a 3.5 mm output, but, of course, the case does not provide any protection against moisture. The presence of such plugs will seem superfluous to many, I carefully cut them off on my device as unnecessary. In the case, the device becomes a little larger, and third-party chargers may not reach the microUSB connector or fall out of it. But apart from this flaw, there are no problems, and the cover is quite nice.

DooGee Shoot 1

On the right side surface there is an on / off button, there is also a slot for SIM cards, it is combined. You can install two microSIM cards or one SIM card and a memory card in this slot. The tray is made of an incomprehensible alloy combined with plastic - it is reliable, but does not harmonize with the case at all, it is clear that no one paid attention to how it would be perceived. Such shortcomings are typical for Chinese C-brands.

DooGee Shoot 1 DooGee Shoot 1< /p>

There is a fingerprint sensor on the front panel, this is a physical key, on the sides there are two touch buttons, you can swap them in the settings, that is, choose the option you are used to. The fingerprint sensor is surprisingly adequate, there are no false positives, but sometimes it does not work when the screen is off, you need to wake the phone with the side key.

DooGee Shoot 1 DooGee Shoot 1< /p>

The volume rocker is located on the left side. On the bottom end you can see two grilles for the speaker, one of them is decorative, since there is only one speaker. But there are two microphones in the phone, one at the bottom, and the second near the main camera - the noise reduction system works decently.

DooGee Shoot 1 DooGee Shoot 1< /p>

Dimensions - smartphone 156.6x77x8.7 mm, weight - 167 grams. For a 5.5-inch screen, the smartphone is quite compact and well built. I liked the device by the feel in my hands, it does not cause any complaints.

Display

Display 5.5 inches, FullHD, IPS, automatic brightness control, matrix from Sharp. This screen surprised me in a good way, the contrast picture (1400 to 1), high brightness and rich colors, plus the ability to adjust. For its price segment, this display is simply amazing.

DooGee Shoot 1

In the sun, the screen remains readable, which is good.

DooGee Shoot 1 DooGee Shoot 1< /p>

There is an additional Live Display setting, it allows you to calibrate the colors on the screen plus change the settings depending on the time of day. To some, this may seem significant.

DooGee Shoot 1 DooGee Shoot 1 < img src="https://mobile-review.com/review/image/doogee/shoot1/scr/33.jpg" alt="DooGee Shoot 1" width="315" height="560"/>

There is an automatic change of wallpaper on the screen, as well as disabling random dialing in your pocket.

DooGee Shoot 1

You can set the one-handed mode, in the dialer the numbers go in one direction, and in any application, double-clicking the "Back" button makes the screen smaller, although fonts may float and this picture does not look the best.

Battery

The built-in Li-Ion battery has a declared capacity of 3300 mAh, the kit includes a 5V / 2A charger, which is surprising for budget devices where they save on everything. The time to fully charge the battery is about 1.5 hours, if you use a 1A charger, it will be about 2.5 hours. There is no fast charging in the device.

Unconverted HD video playback time is about 6 hours at maximum brightness (MX Player), which is typical for such devices based on the MediaTek chipset.

DooGee Shoot 1 DooGee Shoot 1< /p>

Now look how the device behaved without a SIM card inserted and with Wi-Fi turned on, but with synchronization disabled.

DooGee Shoot 1 DooGee Shoot 1 < img src="https://mobile-review.com/review/image/doogee/shoot1/scr/70.jpg" alt="DooGee Shoot 1" width="315" height="560"/>

It worked for a little over a day, while the screen did not work at all. Marvelous? Not at all. Since no one was involved in optimizing the software and various chips that were added to the system, they eat up the battery for one or two. Even more surprising is that you will get a solid day of work on this phone when using it, it does not matter if it lies idle or you use it to browse the web or chat in instant messengers. At the same time, the screen will last 2-2.5 hours at high brightness, up to 3 hours at brightness below 50%.

The battery in this device behaves unpredictably, and it's frustrating, it can simply run out at rest, or it can lie for several days without any problems. Exactly the same thing in work, it can eat away energy before our eyes, it can work for a long time. Having checked this point on two devices, I can say that these are not features of a particular sample, but unoptimized software that DooGee installed on the phone - craftsmen can turn off everything unnecessary, then it will be more fun, but for the mass consumer, this, of course, is not the best option to take your time and hands.

Chipset, memory, performance

The phone uses a budget MediaTek 6737T, 4 cores up to 1.5 GHz, Mali T720 MP2 graphics accelerator. The RAM is 2 GB, which is already pleasing, the built-in memory is 16 GB (10 GB is available to the user). Characteristics for a budget device are not bad, there is nothing to complain about. Supports microSD cards up to 256 GB.

DooGee Shoot 1 DooGee Shoot 1< /p>

The performance of this solution is average, you can play "heavy" games, but the quality will be inferior to models in the high price segment. However, look at the results of synthetic tests yourself.

Communications

It has become customary that Chinese manufacturers are guided by the presence of 4G in their models, as this is a necessary minimum for buyers. Here, LTE support is implemented, and there are five FDD-LTE Band 1/3/7/8/20 bands. No frequency aggregation, the speed is minimal, but everything works. Another thing is that in 3G you will achieve slightly lower speeds on good networks, but for buyers this does not matter.

OTG (USB 2.0) is available, I don’t know why to use it on this device, but suddenly someone wants to connect peripheral devices to it. Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n does not raise any questions, it is single-band. Bluetooth version 4.0.

GPS is fine, navigation is excellent and there are no misses.

Cameras

The front camera is 8 megapixels, it produces more or less normal photos. There are face enhancers.

DooGee Shoot 1 DooGee Shoot 1< /p>

DooGee Shoot 1 DooGee Shoot 1

Now is the time to deal with the two cameras in this device. The main camera is 13 megapixels from Samsung, the second camera is 8 megapixels, it is responsible for the depth of the picture, that is, it forms the same blur or wide aperture effect. I have good and bad news. To begin with, when you cover the second camera with your finger, you get a message on the screen that you may have done it. You can ignore it, as photos with a blurred background are exactly the same, you can see this in the pictures below.

DooGee Shoot 1 DooGee Shoot 1

Why do we need a second camera? I even assumed that it was a dummy, but in fact the camera still works, the resolution of the final image is 16 megapixels, two images are added together, and they are trying to improve the quality. In principle, on a sunny day, this camera produces very good results, I like the way it shoots. There is even a continuous shooting mode, when you can get several dozen frames by holding the button once. The camera settings are very simple, there is a face color enhancement for the main camera, even multiple face detection. But, in general, all this is superfluous, the main thing is that the device shoots decently for its level.

With video recording, everything is typical, FullHD and 30 frames per second, tolerable video quality is enough, if you do not expect something supernatural.

In my opinion, the presence of a second camera in this device is mostly marketing that draws attention to the phone, and not an urgent need.

Software

The device runs on Android 6.0.1, while it has a number of additional settings that are typical for this kind of smartphone.

DooGee Shoot 1

For example, in the settings you can enable gesture control.

You can also use gestures to scroll through songs in the player or switch radio stations, just wave your palm in front of the screen.

Samsung smartphones borrowed the ability to hold the device to your ear during an incoming call to automatically answer the call. Also, the device allows you to take long screenshots, you can immediately draw something on the resulting screenshot. The downside is that this function is not localized, it is in English.

DooGee Shoot 1

It is possible to create a second account for the Play Store, which has become typical for Chinese manufacturers. You can use different instant messengers at the same time, for example, start two WhatsApp.

Impressions

In terms of communication quality, the device is typical for such a level of Chinese, the sound is normal, in difficult conditions the noise reduction system is turned on. Reception in difficult conditions is average, it is impossible to say that the radio part is ideal. The operation of the second SIM card is more or less normal, but 4G data transfer is only available for one card at a time.

This device is a typical Chinese experience, at first glance it seems that this is a very interesting proposal and it has many functions, for example, a second camera. But as soon as you start to understand this, pitfalls immediately come out, much of what is stated simply does not work. See how many selfie modes the manufacturer has announced, in fact, this is one lever in the interface.

DooGee Shoot 1

The Chinese have learned how to create a beautiful presentation for their products, on the official page of this phone everything is so beautiful that you want to buy it with your eyes closed, in reality everything is not so good. Nevertheless, this is an interesting budget phone, its cost in Russia is 9,990 rubles ($100 in China). For its money, it is interesting, although it has a number of flaws, for example, a localization curve, battery life and other disadvantages.

Is it worth buying this smartphone? It depends on your ideas about what is good and what is bad. I can't stomach localization flaws, it annoys me to install third-party software without my permission, and it outweighs everything else. On the other hand, if you are on a budget, then you will get a good camera, an excellent screen, decent battery life, and the ability to manually finish the software and remove those applications that you don’t need, thereby improving the device’s operating time. Therefore, I will not draw conclusions, it all depends on your perception of the products and your willingness to put up with certain shortcomings. In terms of hardware, the device is promising in every sense, but the implementation in practice is not so ideal.

DooGee Shoot 1 < img src="https://mobile-review.com/review/image/doogee/shoot1/2.jpg" alt="DooGee Shoot 1" width="640" height="383"/>

These kinds of shortcomings are typical for Chinese C-brands.

DooGee Shoot 1 DooGee Shoot 1 < img src="https://mobile-review.com/review/image/doogee/shoot1/scr/72.jpg" alt="DooGee Shoot 1" width="315" height="775"/>

DooGee Shoot 1 DooGee Shoot 1 DooGee Shoot 1 DooGee Shoot 1 DooGee Shoot 1 DooGee Shoot 1 DooGee Shoot 1 DooGee Shoot 1

DooGee Shoot 1

You can also use gestures to scroll through songs in the player or switch radio stations, just wave your palm in front of the screen.

Samsung smartphones borrowed the ability to hold the device to your ear during an incoming call to automatically answer the call. Also, the device allows you to take long screenshots, you can immediately draw something on the resulting screenshot. The downside is that this function is not localized, it is in English.

DooGee Shoot 1

It is possible to create a second account for the Play Store, which has become typical for Chinese manufacturers. You can use different messengers at the same time, for example, start two WhatsApp.

DooGee Shoot 1 DooGee Shoot 1 < img src="https://mobile-review.com/review/image/doogee/shoot1/scr/55.jpg" alt="DooGee Shoot 1" width="315" height="560"/>

The DG Security application allows you to protect individual applications from running, you will need to enter a password for them to work.

DooGee Shoot 1 DooGee Shoot 1< /p>

The music player is ordinary, there are equalizers, the sound quality is usual for such devices. The radio supports live recording, works only with headphones.

Among the minuses of the software, I note that it independently and periodically tries to install some games, this is immensely annoying.

DooGee Shoot 1 DooGee Shoot 1 < img src="https://mobile-review.com/review/image/doogee/shoot1/scr/97.jpg" alt="DooGee Shoot 1" width="315" height="560"/>

Impressions

In terms of communication quality, the device is typical for such a level of Chinese, the sound is normal, in difficult conditions the noise reduction system turns on.
