And not without interesting solutions that at least stand out against the background of analogues on the market.

This point in my "coordinate system" is inextricably linked with smartphones, whose aspect ratio has gone beyond 16:9 and tends towards lengthening and giving the case a narrower (not to be confused with thin) profile. The habit is still stronger, and I personally find it difficult to get used to a narrow smartphone. So, this did not happen with Oppo Reno, the width is almost identical to that in my current smartphone (OnePlus 5), which is a big plus for me. The difference in weight is immediately noticeable (my smartphone is lighter at about 30 grams), and after a short time of use I felt a difference in thickness (about 2 mm in favor of Reno). Not to say that the thickness is too critically different, but the heftiness of the device may seem excessive to someone. However, the pocket of trousers and jeans does not delay the smartphone, at a certain stage I even stopped feeling its presence in my pocket.

You can involuntarily admire the play of light: when you turn your smartphone and change the angle of view, depending on the light source, a nice gradient appears on it, the color changes from dark blue to blue-green and aquamarine. This effect is achieved through the use of a multi-layer texture, each of the layers is treated with a jet method with a different degree of depth and intensity, and their combination gives this light overflow effect. Not new, but beautiful.

At the top of the rear back are the camera lenses, which (you won't believe it) are recessed into the body. That is, they do not stick out of it from the word "completely." To be honest, offhand I can’t remember more than five plus or minus modern smartphones with a similar solution. I've never liked how protruding cameras spoil the exterior, preventing the phone from lying flat on the table with the screen up. Also, my habit of carrying a smartphone without a case does not add to the love for the camera protrusions, there could be an advertisement for vinyl films here.

The material for the O-dot is ceramic, and according to the manufacturer, this little dot has a hardness of 8.5 on the Mohs scale (somewhere between topaz and corundum, 10 is the hardness of diamond). The impression of this element is ambiguous: yes, a finger rests comfortably on it when talking on the phone, it attracts attention and is a kind of compositional center of the back panel design. But if you, like me, are accustomed to being careful with the gadget, then there will be no need for such an element and the protective glass will be quite enough. Plus, it takes some getting used to. It took me a few days, since this insert has a smooth surface and does not cling to clothes.

The decorative insert that runs along the center of the back of the Reno, in addition to reminding the owner of the manufacturer of the phone, partly plays a functional role: its surface slides less than the glass covering the back, which helps the grip.

According to the manufacturer, it turned out to reduce the power consumption of the screen, which, in principle, correlates with the autonomy indicators.

The fingerprint sensor proved to be a little better than the same RX17 Neo, according to impressions, the responsiveness of the sensor has improved, the number of reading errors has decreased. Do I regret that the scanner is not as fast as usual, in the case? Rather, yes, but I am ready for such sacrifices for the sake of the absence of bangs at 100%. However, not everyone will share my enthusiasm.

Battery

The smartphone has a lithium-ion battery with an unusual capacity of 3765 mAh. Unlike some previous models, there is exactly one battery, which did not stop adding support for VOOC 3.0 fast charging. This technology is inferior to Super VOOC in terms of charging speed, but the layout of the smartphone did not allow using a faster version. However, you can't complain about the charging speed, half an hour of charging will add 60 percent of the charge, and thanks to low voltage pulse charging technology, the last 20-30% of the charge will be replenished much faster. Wireless charger? We do not need.

It’s worth noting that I don’t play mobile games, but for the sake of the test I rode World Of Tanks a bit, I didn’t get much pleasure: the graphics at medium settings lag when there are several players on the screen at the same time. The dedicated game mode improves things a little, it helps to allocate CPU resources so that the game process is more enjoyable in terms of performance, and slightly increases the frame rate. Casual toys are doing better, which is expected. As for work tasks, thanks to the prevailing number of energy-efficient processor cores, the smartphone shows good results in terms of autonomy.

Contactless payment apologists will be happy to have an NFC module on board, which works seamlessly with payment terminals. Otherwise, everything, in principle, is standard - Bluetooth 5, smartly working GPS, support for most network protocols of telecom operators. The speakers sound clear, the volume margin is enough, however, I rarely listen to music on external speakers.

The main module in the smartphone from Oppo was the well-known Sony IMX586 (48 megapixels, f / 1.7, Quad Bayer, that’s all), an additional 5 megapixel sensor “helps” it, it is responsible for the depth of the frame. The camera can be safely attributed to the category of "good", if you approach the matter with straight hands, you can get quite good pictures with very colorful colors. My initial impressions about the periodic excessive aggressiveness of HDR were generally confirmed, but this is if you find fault. The same HDR, according to my impressions, is involved in the “color enhancement” mode, aka Dazzle Color, I can be wrong. Night mode allows you to significantly improve the lighting in the frame, but when using it, it is very important to hold the phone as evenly as possible, which is not always possible, you need tripod hands. It is advisable to study the settings in the Oppo Reno camera software in advance and understand their logic, especially if you often switch from one device to another, there is a chance to get confused and linger with the frame. For example, shooting modes are located on the left in the drop-down menu of three bars.

The front camera also produces pretty good pictures. Traditionally, there were built-in tools for improving the face, filters, there is support for Google Lens. Wipe more often from dust particles, and we will be happy. There is a curious option in the software: if the phone “understands” that it is in free fall, then in the interests of safety it automatically “hides” the retractable module, warning the user with a corresponding message.

Of course, Reno lacks stars in terms of top performance, but, again, this is noticeable only in "heavy" games. The novelty captivates with its design, and this is actually the case, it is extremely difficult to bribe me with visual “goodies”, but in this case I gave up.

The price of 40,000 rubles, in my opinion, will be taken with a great deal of skepticism. The brand does not have many fans in Russia, especially since many will start nodding at competitors in the face of the Honor View 20, Samsung A70 and the promising Meizu 16S. All of these devices at least offer better performance for the same or less money. It seems to me that the 128 GB version of Oppo Reno would have looked more profitable at a price of 31-33 thousand rubles. The smartphone turned out to be interesting, original, not without strange moments in the software, but the impressions from use are mostly positive. However, the pocket of trousers and jeans does not delay the smartphone, at a certain stage I even stopped feeling its presence in my pocket.

Plus, it takes some getting used to. It took me a few days, since this insert has a smooth surface and does not cling to clothes.

The fingerprint sensor proved to be a little better than the same RX17 Neo, according to impressions, the responsiveness of the sensor has improved, the number of reading errors has decreased. Do I regret that the scanner is not as fast as usual, in the case? Rather, yes, but I am ready for such sacrifices for the sake of the absence of bangs at 100%. However, not everyone will share my enthusiasm.

Battery

The smartphone has a lithium-ion battery with an unusual capacity of 3765 mAh. Unlike some previous models, there is exactly one battery, which did not stop adding support for VOOC 3.0 fast charging. This technology is inferior to Super VOOC in terms of charging speed, but the layout of the smartphone did not allow using a faster version. However, you can't complain about the charging speed, half an hour of charging will add 60 percent of the charge, and thanks to low voltage pulse charging technology, the last 20-30% of the charge will be replenished much faster. Night mode allows you to significantly improve the lighting in the frame, but when using it, it is very important to hold the phone as evenly as possible, which is not always possible, you need tripod hands. It is advisable to study the settings in the Oppo Reno camera software in advance and understand their logic, especially if you often switch from one device to another, there is a chance to get confused and linger with the frame. For example, shooting modes are located on the left in the drop-down menu of three bars.

The front camera also produces pretty good pictures. Traditionally, there were built-in tools for improving the face, filters, there is support for Google Lens. Wipe more often from dust particles, and we will be happy. There is a curious option in the software: if the phone “understands” that it is in free fall, then in the interests of safety it automatically “hides” the retractable module, warning the user with a corresponding message.

The price of 40,000 rubles, in my opinion, will be taken with a great deal of skepticism. The brand does not have many fans in Russia, especially since many will start nodding at competitors in the face of the Honor View 20, Samsung A70 and the promising Meizu 16S. All of these devices at least offer better performance for the same or less money. It seems to me that the 128 GB version of Oppo Reno would have looked more profitable at a price of 31-33 thousand rubles.
