Operators and banks

The imposition of paid services in the form of a mobile bank and SMS informing is gaining bad popularity . Mobile operators are already engaged in consumer lending, and banks, in turn, use mobile phones to make it easier and faster to issue loans to their customers.

Zhenya Vildiaev writes well and professionally about banking products and services. I did not want to climb into its "territory", but banking services and telecom services constantly intersect and depend on each other. If once the interaction of banks and mobile operators was limited to periodic replenishment of the balance from a bank card, now these industries are cooperating in a variety of areas. Starting from SMS-informing and authorization, and ending with micro-crediting, which mobile operators have already begun to deal with. Not to mention all kinds of mobile payments from the balance of the phone, transferring money from the phone to a bank card, etc.

A separate topic is auto-replenishment of the balance from a bank card. I have written about this more than once, but the situation is constantly changing and new problems “crawl out” to the surface. For all the seeming simplicity and convenience of the service, you need to connect it very carefully and with an understanding of potential problems. Otherwise, you can make yourself worse and it will be a shame.

Another "separate topic" is mobile applications in smartphones. This is very interesting for banks: customers spend their personal time digging into the settings, and banking support services do not lose their valuable time. Even the most effective and extensive support in social networks is beneficial for banks and mobile phones in that communication with a client is transferred offline and one employee can deal with several issues at the same time.

Operators and banks

Sberbank writes about 20 million active users of Sberbank Online applications, I readily believe. I needed to get a Sberbank debit card, and the consultant in the hall quickly connected the full package to me (the first two months are free), categorically stating that this is a standard procedure and the card cannot be activated otherwise. I was surprised, but I took my word for it. Turned out to be an employee initiative. Then I had to go to the bank and write an application for disconnection. I hope that this was indeed the initiative of a specific employee, and not a total “hilling up” of all those who open accounts.

As far as I understand, the bank encourages self-service and even takes a reduced commission for the fact that the client does not load the cashier with payments and transfers. With all the convenience of operations through a mobile application and SMS payments, you need to keep in mind two features:

  • Most Trojans that steal money from bank accounts write specifically for Sberbank applications. Not out of sympathy for the color green, but because of its widespread use, the probability of "guessing" is many times higher than with any other bank.
  • By linking a mobile phone number to a bank account, do not allow this number to be lost due to inactivity. I don’t know how it is now, but before there were cases when even a phone number “untied” from the account got stuck somewhere in the bowels of the system and continued to work in the device of the new owner of the number.

A small surprise from Uralsib Bank. A few years later, the bank realized that not all cards had paid SMS-informing enabled and decided to correct this unfortunate defect. I remember that mobile operators were forced to refuse to impose paid services with a certain free period. Most likely, the losses from fines began to exceed the income from such “services”. Now what, you have to follow the banks? For example, my mother does not read SMS at all. And if the phone number is already with the new owner? In general, I do not like this initiative.

Alfa-Bank SMS loan

We already wrote about the interest of mobile operators in micro-lending services in January, review here. Interest, of course, cannibalistic, the level of pawnshops and micro-finance companies. But now we are talking about another project. Quote from the news description:

“Since February 2017, Alfa-Bank customers can get a consumer loan for purchases in an online store by simply entering a code from an SMS - without having to visit a bank branch or meet with a courier. Alfa-Bank is the first bank in the Russian market that provides such a service.

Now buying goods on the Internet on credit has become even easier and faster. The whole process from ordering goods to receiving a loan takes only a few minutes and takes place completely online. The client chooses the product on the website of the online store and the payment method is on credit. Then he fills out an online application, and within a maximum of three minutes he receives a loan decision from the bank. This decision is final, no additional certificates or guarantors are required.

After the application is approved, all the terms of the loan offered by the bank, including the loan agreement and the payment schedule, are displayed in a convenient and understandable form so that the client can read them. The client confirms the receipt of the loan by simply entering the code from the SMS. After that, the client only has to wait for the delivery of the selected product. The terms for receiving goods by the client have been significantly reduced, now it takes only a few hours from ordering goods on credit to delivery by the store courier.

In fact, a consumer loan agreement is concluded using a simple electronic signature, there is no need to physically come to the bank or wait for a courier.

It is convenient and beneficial not only for the client-buyer, but also for the online store itself, because payment confirmation comes from the bank instantly.

The first partner with which the bank launched the possibility of obtaining an SMS loan was the official Samsung online store online-samsung.ru. Currently, the bank connects to the SMS lending service other online stores using Alfa-Bank's Buy Easy online lending platform.

Banks and operators

It really works and the menu item "On credit" is present on the Samsung online store website. Offhand, the scheme looks attractive and you can really buy a smartphone or laptop on credit in a matter of minutes and without taking your “fifth point” off the chair. I wonder what the interest on the loan will be? If I'm not mistaken, bank interest depends on the quality of credit history, certificates, additional documents and the availability of guarantors. None of this is required here. It seems that they are limited to requesting a credit history. I have a suspicion that the interest on such loans will not be humane.

Automation and maximum relief of getting into a debt hole is a good thing. For bank and trading platform. Is it good for the buyer? Not sure. I am generally allergic to any loans, the joy of an honestly earned shopping holiday is lost. Or is it prejudice? Probably, some things can be taken on credit, deliberately putting up with an overpayment. The same washing machine, without which it is difficult to live. But buying an expensive smartphone on credit? Which beats, is lost, is stolen. In the end, you get bored and want a new device. And to break and then pay for many months for a thing that is no longer there, it should be a shame. Going to the store, collecting references and getting a loan is no, but a deterrent. As you can see, the procedures are changing towards simplification and acceleration. If the bank considers you a “good” borrower, then getting a loan will soon be not much longer than paying in cash.

And once again I remind you: under no circumstances, never tell anyone strange letters or numbers that came to your phone in SMS. This is the other side of simplifying procedures. Banks and operators consider receiving an SMS with a code as sufficient identification of the owner. By passing the code to an outsider, you hand him "the key to the apartment where the money is."

Unexpected balance auto-replenishment

Personally, I've always considered auto-replenishment to be evil, but a lot of people like the lack of worries. And for the connected auto payment at the threshold in MTS, they even offer a discount, it’s profitable! With the advent of Smart tariffs instead of blocking (not enough money to charge a subscriber), switching to daily charges, unexpected scenarios arise. As you understand, the amount of daily debits for 30 days will be significantly more than the monthly subscription fee and it is better not to bring it up to this. What happens with auto-complete by threshold?

Situation 1. Suppose a threshold of 50 rubles is set, and on the day the monthly subscriber was charged, there was not enough money. You never know, made a mistake or spent too much. In this case, they will write off daily until they reach the threshold amount, the account will be replenished and the subscriber will be written off in a month. Expensive, but not deadly.

Situation 2 is more fun. Fans of maximum savings and just meticulous people will set a threshold of 2-3 rubles, and the amount of auto payment will be set equal to the monthly fee. It would seem that the ideal scheme without unnecessary expenses, but no. On the day the subscriber is charged, billing switches you to a daily charge and drives the balance into a minus. Then auto payment clicks for the amount of the subscription fee, but this money is no longer enough for a monthly subscriber, and daily write-offs will continue. Then reaching the threshold, driving the balance to minus, and so on from month to month. And, also, the smartphone may need to be restarted after even the shortest loss of minus, without this, the data transfer may not work.

It turns out that a reliable way to save yourself from the hassle and unnecessary expenses is to set the threshold for auto payment to be higher than the monthly subscription fee, but not everyone will like this. As a compromise, you can set the threshold slightly higher than the daily charge in the daily charge mode. Or the amount of replenishment with a margin. Then at least you won’t run into an eternal daily regime. In general, as I already wrote at the beginning of the text, when you first connect auto payment on the threshold, you need to act meaningfully, having a good idea of how this mechanism works. Unfortunately, the incentive program (10% discount) is valid in MTS only for “threshold” auto payments, the auto-replenishment option according to the plan is not included in the program.

Going to the store, collecting information and getting a loan is no, but a deterrent.

Personally, I've always considered auto-replenishment to be evil, but a lot of people like to have no worries. And for the connected auto payment at the threshold in MTS, they even offer a discount, it’s profitable! With the advent of Smart tariffs instead of blocking (not enough money to charge a subscriber), switching to daily charges, unexpected scenarios arise. As you understand, the amount of daily debits for 30 days will be significantly more than the monthly fee and it is better not to bring it up to this. What happens with auto-complete by threshold?

Situation 1. Suppose a threshold of 50 rubles is set, and on the day the monthly subscriber was charged, there was not enough money. You never know, made a mistake or spent too much. In this case, they will write off daily until they reach the threshold amount, the account will be replenished and the subscriber will be written off for the month.
